Introduction

Institutional repositories (IR) have become an important source of primary information for researchers and is popularly used in many countries. IR allows management and dissemination of digital materials created by the institution and its members. Setup of IRs especially in universities and colleges is imperative for the long-term preservation, as well as organization, access and distribution of institutional digital materials. Many institutions of higher learning have handed over the responsibility of setting up IRs to the libraries. The library and the librarians now have to empower themselves with the knowledge and expertise of using necessary software to initiate IR.
